Description:
Emergency Blood Coverage (EBC) Volunteers assist the American Red Cross and Greenwich Hospital by helping to transport blood products from one site to another during emergency situations; although locations and situations do vary. We ask volunteers to work on-call nights and weekends, during the hours the Greenwich Chapter is closed. A typical shift might involve weekday nights from 5 pm to 9 am, or one weekend from Friday at 5 pm to Monday at 9 am (although shifts are very flexible and we are willing to try our best to work with your schedule). Each volunteer carries a pager, which can be picked up at the Chapter and will be called only by Greenwich Hospital during an Emergency Blood Request. A drive to an area hospital in Stamford, Norwalk, Brideport, or Yale-New Haven is needed to pick up blood products, followed by its drop-off at Greenwich Hospital. Gas reimbursement is available upon request.
Daytime drivers are also needed. Drivers are called via phone, Monday through Friday during normal chapter hours (9 am to 5 pm). Daytime drivers are on a master list of drivers if a drivers is not readily available to assist he/ she may turn down the request.
We ask that all blood service have a valid drivers license and can commit to a Red Cross Orientation.
Thank you for your interested in the American Red Cross- Greenwich Chapter !!
