Description:
The American Red Cross – Greenwich Chapter runs the Safe Rides program and has assisted in youth leadership and increased public safety since 1982. The program is designed to combat the dangers of at-risk situations by providing youth with a "Safe Ride" home - no questions asked. These at-risk situations can be varied: babysitters who might not be comfortable getting in a car with a parent who had been drinking; students whose designated driver(s) left early or became otherwise engaged; kids who are hanging with their friends and just have a gut feeling the scene is no longer safe; and teens who should not be driving under the influence.
Safe Rides members are trained volunteers with energy and commitment to serve the community. Through this program, you will be engaged in community service and will aid in fundraising and outreach activities in the Greenwich area, as well as assisting with driving your classmates and keeping them safe as well as working toward a better and safer community. The time commitment is flexible; although is always the weekends from 10PM-2AM. We ask that volunteers are available one weekend evening every six weeks, as well as attend various meetings. The Red Cross also ask that volunteers be in grades 9-12, if under 18 must have parental consent and attend Volunteer orientation as well as meet with our Youth Director.
