Description:

Would you like to spend one day doing something for someone else?

Our organization provides companionship to the low-income elderly in the city of Boston. Our elders are over 70, live on less than $8000 a year, and have no one to spend the holiday with. Visiting Volunteers will bring a meal and flowers to an elder and spend time visiting with them. Most importantly, they will bring compassion and caring.

On-call emergency services:
Volunteers and staff provide valuable and essential social support while they assist elders with the tasks of daily living ? escorting them to medical and other appointments, shopping, banking, getting prescriptions filled, and running errands. Volunteers also deliver food packages from the Emergency Food Pantry.

Simply, we are looking for people who are able to escort a senior citizen to an appointment or activity. We can always find a time match and have a tremendous group of elders. When is the next time you have free???

How to Apply:

In order to be matched with an elder person, Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly?Boston complies with state regulations that requests information from the Criminal History Systems Board pursuant to Chapter 6 ?172C that mandates agencies which accept such individual as a volunteer.

Simply, we require volunteers to complete a CORI. As well, the agency also requires two references. If you choose to escort elders in your car to our event, we ask for a copy of your drivers license and a copy of proof of insurance.

Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

To make a difference in one of our elders lives or for more information,
