Description:

Toi special unit was started in the year 1991. It is within Toi Primary School in Kibera about one kilometer behind Adams Arcade next to Nairobi Moi Girls Secondary School. Toi special unit is one of many other units enlarge their learning scope.
SPORTS.
We involve them in sports and they have taken part in Special Olympics competition, Kenya sports for the mentally handicapped from Divisional level to National level.
PARENTS.
We have very cooperative parents that make teachers and children life comfortable. The parents sat and decided to start a feeding program where the children are provided with lunch and ten o?clock tea for a little payment per month.
INTERGRATION.
The children are usually integrated in the regular classes as per their abilities and socialization. All the teachers and the pupils in Toi School are friendly and they accept the children in the special unit wholly.
PROBLEMS.
Lack of suitable self contained classrooms.
Lack of self contained kitchen, dining room and rest room.
Some parents are not able to pay the feeding program.
CONCLUSION.
Toi Special unit is in existence due to the Gorvement initiative parents, teachers and friend?s commitment that are more needed for us to success. Any resources that one might have we invite you to come with them to help these children.

We will require some qualifications indicating that the volunteer has experience with dealing with children who are mentally challenged or have worked in similar situations or have education towards this.
The charges are 100Euros for registration and 75 Euros per week for upkeep
Costs include:

Food and Accommodation.
In country orientation and training.
In country staff support
Registration fees
Written materials pre departure.
Communication.
The volunteer will be accommodated in a home stay.
