Description:

The Portland Women's Crisis Line is committed to ending domestic and sexual violence by providing confidential services and education to our community.

PWCL operates a 24-hour state-wide hotline for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, and concerned family, friends and community members. Hotline advocates are available to provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and peer support, while connecting callers with local domestic violence and sexual assault service providers.

The hotline also serves as the centralized domestic violence crisis line for the Tri-County area (Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties). Advocates are able to provide information and referrals for area domestic violence services, including shelter and emergency assistance.

Advocates accompany sexual assault survivors to the hospital, legal proceedings, and police department and provides peer support and advocacy to survivors over the phone.

PWCL trains volunteers through a 60 hour Basic Advocacy Training that covers a vast range of issues, including oppression theory, the intersections between classism, violence, and homelessness, the nuances of violence in diverse communities, the effects of trauma, and basic advocacy skills.

Direct Service volunteers must have reliable access to a car during their shifts.

Excellent communication, listening, empathy, objectivity, good boundary setting, and open-mindedness are important.

People of color, women, queer, and bilingual folks are encouraged to volunteer.
