Description:

City Year Los Angeles is an Americorps program and national non-profit organization that unites young people of all backgrounds for a demanding and rewarding year of full-time community service, giving them the skills and opportunities to change the world. As tutors, mentors, and role models, City Year corps members make a difference in the lives of children, and transform schools and neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

Our mission is to put idealism to work by tapping the civic power of young people for an annual campaign of idealism. The goals of the annual campaign of idealism are to generate transformative community service, break down social barriers, inspire citizens to civic action, develop new leaders for the common good, and improve and promote the concept of voluntary national service.

Corps members:

• Help students excel with one-on-one tutoring, group instruction and homework help.
• Lead out-of-school and leadership development activities.
• Organize service clubs, student councils, and after-school activities.
• Teach children about important social issues and diversity.
• Lead and organize high-impact service such as painting murals and renovating community centers.

>> Eligibility Requirements:

• Between the ages of 17-24.
• United States citizen or permanent resident alien.
• High school graduate/G.E.D. recipient OR agreement to pursue a G.E.D.*
• Your eligibility may be contingent on prior enrollment in AmeriCorps.**
