Description:
The Shanti Program matches specially trained volunteers in one-to-one relationships with clients. Volunteers spend an average of three hours per week with their clients, and provide friendship and nonjudgmental emotional support through confidential listening and trust. The clients in the Shanti Program are wrestling with grief and loss or with a life-threatening illness, one of which is HIV/AIDS. In addition to the One-to-One Program, Shanti volunteers also provide emotional and listening support to two long-term care residential facilities and eight correctional facilities in western Washington. The Shanti Program provides emotional support to over 300 clients through its various service options.
