Description:
In February 2007 our new organic farming project was initiated thanks to sponsors and the arrival of Juan Bautista an Argentinean Agriculture practiser who brought enthusiasm, a lot of ideas and the hard working example, which made each and everyone enthusiastic about the project. Within 2 months he realized a running organic farm and the involvement of staff, volunteers and children of Casa do Caminho.
Long Term objectives of the project:
1. Provide quality food for the children and teenagers
2. Provide farming education to children and teenagers
3. Make the project self-sustaining and guarantee continuity
4. Pass on knowledge to the surrounding impoverished farmers
We are looking for a Project Leader to take over the responsibility of this project to help with continuity and development, plus enhance the involvement of the kids and the community. You need to be able to efficiently manage the project and to coordinate the other organic farming volunteers. As the project is still evolving, we are open to new ideas and suggestions.
We are also looking for Volunteers willing to gain farming experience by providing daily farm maintenance. Organic farming skills are very welcome since our project is young and our team is still learning. However, this is not a must and you will learn quickly the basics of organic farming.
What are the requirements?
• Age minimum: 21 years
• Basic Portuguese skills
• 6 month - 2 year
• Degree or experience in organic farming
• Ideally experience in working with children and teenagers
Who are we?
Casa do Caminho is situated in the middle of a rainforest, outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The orphanage aims to take children away from aggression, drugs & criminality in Rio and surrounding suburbs. It provides these children with shelter, nutrition, education and a lot of freedom to play. Your help is needed because international volunteers bring new knowledge and enthusiasm to Casa do Caminho from which the children and staff can learn from!
What do we offer?
The volunteer program at Casa do Caminho is completely free. Volunteers receive airport escort, accommodation, food, training, Portuguese classes and access to “capoeira” classes in exchange for their services. Volunteering at Casa do Caminho is a unique cultural experience – you will get to know the brazilian culture, have the freedom to set up your own projects and the children will make you feel at home from the very first second!
