Description:
CasaSito is an umbrella organization that works with Guatemalan-directed non-profits and also directs a scholarship project for rural communities. All of the projects increase educational opportunities and the living conditions for underprivileged people. Volunteers must stay for at least one month, be 18 years old, and have at least an intermediate Spanish level. Spanish classes can be arranged upon arrival, if needed.
The associated CasaSito projects include opportunities for volunteers to teach art, English, and computer classes to children as well as adults. Several projects are looking for volunteers to serve as teacher’s assistants for students ranging from pre-school to high school. There are also opportunities to help indigenous businesses increase their profits by assisting them with advertising and advising them on business strategies.
The associated projects are located in Antigua, Ciudad Vieja, San Mateo, Santiago Zamora, Quetzaltenango (Xela), Chocantariy, Alta Verapaz and Quiché.
Volunteers are in charge of all their expenses (i.e. accommodation, food, transport and pocket money etc). CasaSito will assist you to organizing airport pick-ups, hotel reservations, family home stays and Spanish classes if needed. Volunteers can stay at the CasaSito Volunteers' House if desired. The rent ranges from Q1200 to Q1500 per month for single room and Q2000 to Q2200 for double room which includes unlimited access to high speed internet. If you have your own laptop, wireless access is available. This house is a place for volunteers to exchange ideas and share their working experience. Activities such as talks, project visits, dinner parties and travel will be organized for those who wish to participate. All the proceeds from the House are used to support the CasaSito education program.
