Description:

We are seeking volunteers who can give continuity to our English courses and help in the daily functioning of our learning center and international volunteer household. We charge NO FEES. Our classes began in February and current teachers will be leaving in late March and April. We offer affordable language classes of small groups, as well as individual tutoring for language teachers.

AEC-TEA is an educational-cultural association in Capim Grosso, a small town in the Bahian interior. We offer courses, projects and events both in our center and in the community which provide unique educational opportunities and incentive for local youth to study and volunteer.

AEC-TEA started as the idea of a few people in our town, a posting on idealist.org and the collaboration of a series of Brazilian and international volunteer groups. Now in our third year and having hosted over 50 volunteers from 15 different countries, AEC-TEA is proud to be completely organized by local youth! We welcome open-minded, flexible volunteers who would like to support our efforts!

We ask for a commitment of at least three months and give preference to those who can commit to longer stays. Since AEC-TEA is an all volunteer-run organization which receives no funding, volunteers are asked to cover their own food and housing costs through a monthly contribution of R$250 (approx. US$110).

While teaching experience and knowledge of Portuguese is helpful, AEC-TEA gives greater preference to a volunteer who can make a commitment to:
- being open and eager to learn about local culture, make connections in the community and take initiative in diverse activities
- working and living as part of a family-like group and international team
- exercising patience, flexibility and willingness to look for solutions to challenges
- living simply and working creatively with minimal resources
- having realistic expectations and a sincere desire to work together with a new, local association

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should visit our website at http://www.aec-tea.org to learn more about our community, association, past volunteer experiences and fill out the volunteer application form to start the application process.
