Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
This volunteer position builds components and assemblies for interactive exhibits and assists with production staff with exhibit production.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, fabricate and assemble a variety of components into working prototype and finished exhibits.
• Uses drawings and design sketches to communicate various parts of a project.
• Work with other volunteers and staff as required.
• Volunteer at least one weekday (6hrs) a week consistently.
• Work safely with production grade shop equipment
• Creativity and imagination required!
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Basic shop skills required (e.g. table saw, drill press or router)
• Advanced skills desired (e.g. cabinetmaking, welding, painting, mill or lathe) but not necessary
• Basic knowledge in a variety of engineering or scientific principles.
• Ability to read and create basic shop drawings – either by hand or using CAD software
• Self-motivated with good problem-solving, judgment, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to safely use power tools and other shop equipment
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Past experience working safely in a shop environment
