Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Vernier Technology Lab features a variety of units on different aspects of technology, including Security, Biomedical, Robots and Computers, Communications, and Household Technology. The units rotate frequently, so that each time visitors come to OMSI, they will find something new to do in the lab. From taking apart everyday appliances to exploring the inside of a computer, volunteers help visitors understand how technology works!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Interact with visitors to help them explore and learn from exhibits and Tech Lab activities.
• Present Technology demonstrations to visitors. These may include describing how a toilet works, helping visitors drive a robot around the room, or exploring nanotechnology.
• Assist staff in the development and maintenance of the space by troubleshooting computers, restocking exhibits in the lab and Turbine Hall, and helping to keep chaos in the Ball Room to a minimum.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Able to present technology content in an engaging way to a broad age range and skill level.
• Working knowledge of past and present technologies and inventions.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Able to maintain a calm, pleasant, and cheerful demeanor in a noisy and crowded environment.
• Must present a professional appearance.
• Dependable and punctual.
• Self-directed and willing to take initiative.
• Willing to follow OMSI rules and procedures.
AVAILABILITY:
Volunteers are needed Wednesday and Saturday mornings and Saturday afternoons.
