Description:
Cambridge Cares About AIDS, Inc. (CCA) is seeking
Front Desk Volunteers in its operations department.
The mission of CCA is to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic by serving those most impacted by social and economic inequality. CCA provides accessible prevention, education, advocacy, and support services in accordance with harm reduction principles to help people meet self-identified goals.
Position Description:
Front Desk Volunteers are the first point of contact for CCA visitors and callers, act as “the face and voice of CCA,” and are integral to the effective and efficient functioning of the organization. In addition, this position provides volunteers with the opportunity to “work behind the scenes,” offering optional clerical help, such as filing, faxing, photocopying, and data entry, to the Operations Department if desired.
Qualifications:
• Excellent phone and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to cope with the unpredictable.
• Attentiveness and patience.
• Experience working with issues related to substance use and abuse, harm reduction, homelessness, mental health, and bi-lingual/bi-cultural communities required.
• Commitment to harm reduction philosophy and/or experience delivering services within a harm reduction framework.
• Must be age 18 or older.
Dates Needed:
• Year round.
• Shifts are 4 hours, Monday through Friday, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm.
• If desired, part of shift will be spent doing clerical work.
Time Commitment:
• 1 shift (4 hours) per week.
• 3+ month commitment.
• Consistent schedule required.
CCA provides volunteers the opportunity to directly interact with and assist those living with HIV/AIDS in a safe and welcoming way. In addition, CCA invites volunteers to learn more about HIV/AIDS and its surrounding issues by encouraging them to attend free trainings offered to all staff as well as monthly staff meetings. Training and orientation specific to the position are provided on-site by CCA staff before a volunteer begins their placement.
How to Apply:
If interested, please visit www.ccaa.org or contact Amanda Fallon at afallon@ccaa.org or 617-661-3040 to obtain a volunteer application.
