The SCLCs mission is to link communities and conservation through education and ecotourism in the Sarapiquí region of Costa Ricas northern lowlands. The SCLC focuses its efforts in four areas  environmental education, community development, conservation, and tourism  in order to help form future environmental leaders, raise the organizational capacity of local communities, promote sustainable land use, and offer tourism that serves as a source of support for sustainable development in the area. Our programs serve hundreds of local people and thousands of ecotourists each year.
This region is the 6th poorest county in all of Costa Rica. Tourism is a rapid growing industry; therefore, there is a high demand for English speakers.
Volunteers Should be of age 18 or above 18 with minimum education of high school. This placement do not need volunteer in the month of Jan and Dec.
Volunteers can help by doing ;
assisting with ESL lesson planning
- instructing ESL classes
- teaching in a rural school once a week
assisting with eco-tourism activities
- working at the artisan gallery and reception one Saturday a month

Volunteers with special skills as listed below are given preferance:
Teacher - English
Teacher - Science
Teacher - Environmental Science
TEFL Certificaiton / Training

Yes, Basecamp International welcomes all the interested non local participants to volunteer and make a difference.Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one week of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.
