Description:

Major objective:
To train the Magadi and Ngurumani community, who are mainly the maasai to acquire skills in computers so that they can effectively utilize the services offered by the World Corps Kenya Resource Center. This will enable them to access information necessary for their development, ease communication and form partnerships with the rest of the world.
The volunteer will assist in a big way in ensuring that the community members are well trained.


Qualifications:

O Knowledge in Ms Word, Excel, Power point and Internet use should be the minimum level of qualification.
O Some experiences in community development
O Self motivated and willing to work with poor community.

Responsibilities:
The volunteer will be working together with the World Corps Program coordinator in charge of the Magadi resource center to;
• giving computer lessons to the Maasai community in Magadi ,
• Assist in the management / operation of the resource center
• Assist in the maintenance of the computers and the network ( these skills are optional but will be helpful)
• Any other skills that might be useful to the community.


Orientation and training:
The volunteer will be given a 3 days orientation by the worldcorps staff. The volunteer will also work with someone from the community on a full time basis.

Commitment:
Minimum commitment of 1 month at a time during or at the end of the volunteer period, a commitment to a further period at time is possible. Approximately one month’s notice of intention to leave is requested so that a replacement may be found.

Time and place: The volunteer will be working for 7 hours a day, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm. The place of work is mainly in Magadi town and some few times in Ngurumani.

Costs: The registration fees are 100Euros; which caters for the airport pick up, a night stay in Nairobi, transport to Ngurumani and orientation.
A weekly fee of 75Euros which caters for food and accommodation of the volunteer in a host family within the community.
