Description:
If you love reading to children you'll have a great time as a waiting room reader in one of 39 pediatric clinics in the KC area. Read aloud from favorites like 'Goodnight Moon', 'Green Eggs & Ham', and 'Where the Wild Things Are' with children waiting to see their pediatrican.
Readers share books with kids, talk with parents about early childhood literacy and hand out new and gently used waiting room books to families.
A blast for book lovers! Ideal volunteers:
- Good reading skills
- Appreciation for books
- Enjoy being around children and families
Readers undergo 2 hours of training and are asked to commit to a minimum of 3 months of reading, preferably at least 1x a week for 1-2 hours. Minimum age: 15 without a parent (10+ with a parent)
Reach Out & Read has 39 clinics throughout the KC Metro. To find a clinic near you call 913-588-2793 for locations or visit www.reachoutandreadkc.org
