Member at Large of the Board of Directors

Location:

This position is located in Washington, DC. Meetings are held monthly at Thomas Circle. For more information, visit www.beyondtalent.org.

General Responsibilities:

The Board of Directors is the legal authority for Beyond Talent. As a member of the Board, a Member at Large acts in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization.

Requirements:

The requirements to be on the Beyond Talent Board are as follows:
• Commitment to the work of the organization,
• Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Board governance: policy, finance, programs, andor personnel
• Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate,
• Attendance at monthly Board meetings,
• A time commitment of 5-10 hours per month which includes Board preparation, meeting, and committee meeting time,
• Attendance at annual general meeting,
• Be informed of the services provided by Beyond Talent and publicly support them,
• Prepare for and participate in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board,
• Be aware and abstain from any conflict of interest,
• Commit to fund-raising goal

Specific Duties:

• Governing Beyond Talent by the broad policies developed by the Board,
• Establish overall long and short term goals, objectives and priorities for Beyond Talent in meeting the needs of the community served,
• Recommend policy to the Board,
• Be accountable to the funders for the services provided and funds expended,
• Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Beyond Talent through a regular review of programs and services,
• Be accountable and seek nominations for election to the Board when appropriate,
• Prepare for and participate in the discussions and deliberations of the Board, and
• Foster a positive working relationship with other Board members and Beyond Talent staff.

Accountability:

A member at large is accountable to the President of the Board as specified in the by-laws.
