Description:

An Art Therapist is needed at the Dzorwulu Special School to help students express their emotions through art. As a volunteer art therapist in this area, you will be required to explore student problems using a wide range of art materials and techniques and there by promote positive change and personal growth in students.

Aside these, your duties will include:

1. assessing the needs of students by listening to them and providing guidance;
2. working creatively with students in a therapeutic setting;
3. working with students in a group or one-to-one setting;
4. enabling students to explore their art work and the process of its production;
5. etc


Eligibility for above volunteer opportunity:
Preferred gender: any
Age: 18 years and above
Educational background: high school, college or university
Work experience: at least a years experience in a related area above


Skills needed for placement
First and foremost, volunteers must show a strong desire to work with children with mental and behavioural disorders. They should realize that in developing countries such as Ghana, there are a lot of lapses in work. Volunteers will therefore need to be tolerant and flexible in order to meet their goals. Taking initiatives and follow-ups will help them overcome hurdles and face challenges more confidently.
