Description:
Goal: To promote acceptance and inclusion of people with developmental disabilities into the community and to influence more consumer interest in the community
Qualifications:
Requires the ability and desire to spend time with developmentally disabled adults. A Buddy must have an appreciation of the challenges faced by many of the consumers and be willing to respect the confidentiality of your relationship. Also, a Community Buddy must be prepared to have fun and enjoy the company of a new friend!
Duties:
•Work with the Activities Coordinator for outing and event ideas
•Spend one on one time with a consumer, getting them involved in the community
•Work with special clubs (i.e.: Starbucks Coffee Club) to plan trips to coffee shops, out to lunch, to see a movie, to go shopping together, or play sports
