Description:
Childcare Assistant (Volunteer)
Purpose: Childcare Assistants play a vital role in safehouse organization. The primary purpose of these volunteers is to provide childcare at various times throughout the day to offer the women staying at the shelter an opportunity to spend some “quiet time” by themselves. Childcare Assistants also provide childcare during adult group times and individual advocacy and counseling sessions.
Training: Child Care Assistants must attend the 15 hour Victim’s Advocacy training prior to working with clients of A Woman’s Place.
Duties:
• Assist with childcare during regular group times and during individual counseling and advocacy sessions.
• Lead fun, safe activities for children at the safehouse and/or the outreach center
• Assist with the parenting program as requested
• Answer the crisis line and business line as needed
• Administrative duties as assigned
Requirements: Child Care Assistants must be willing to sign and abide by A Woman’s Place confidentiality statement. Further, Childcare Assistants are also required to receive the 15 hour Victims Advocacy training. All volunteers who work directly with clients must be at least 18 years of age at time of application. All volunteers must attend a minimum of one meeting per month with the Programs Administrator.
Supervision: All volunteers are supervised by the Programs Administrator.
