Description:

The organization undertakes this program in collaboration with schools in rural areas. This program is for those volunteers who are interested in teaching; and teaching means working mainly with children. Our education program includes all manners of subjects/courses depending on your field of interest and capability. English language, Math, and Science constitute the educational program, but all other subjects and arts and crafts are welcome.

Apart from the teaching activity under this program, Participatory Learning Action (PLA) which is an educational campaign has about twenty-five percent as an activity. In that volunteer(s) on this program automatically qualifies to undertake PLA.

The teaching activity includes the following levels of education:
1. Day care centers/nursery/kindergarten & crèche (foundation)
2. Elementary/primary(basic 1 to basic 6)
3. Junior high schools
4. Senior high school level

1. Day care centers
These children are between the ages of 2-5 years and are just beginning to pick up the local & English language. You need patience to deal with them and you must be someone who loves kids. Another benefit of teaching this age group is that you help eliminate the fear and shyness often felt by children this age regarding speaking.

2. Elementary/Primary
In Ghana, our primary education begins from stages 1-6 and their ages mostly range between 6 and 13 years. We run the program in such a way that the English Language is paramount to boost their English speaking and comprehension. Patience is the key on the part of our volunteers due to the fact that even though Ghana is known to be an English speaking country, but most people don’t practice the English language properly, especially in the rural areas.

3. Junior high school
The junior school level focuses mainly on intensive teaching. Students spend three years of intensive learning before graduating into the senior high level. Subjects taught at this level mainly include Math, Integrated Science, English, Social Studies, and Environmental Studies. You would be dealing with the adolescents and teenagers.

4. Senior High School
In our senior high school, classes mainly focus on expanding the vocabulary of the students and helping them to discover their professions before they graduate to become useful citizens and be able to upgrade to the universities & polytechnics, teacher & nursing training levels. Hearing English from volunteers from all over the world greatly help these students to get used to the different accents and usage of English in the real world. You can also teach Math, English, Accounting, Economics, Chemistry, Biology, etc.

Your role as a volunteer would either be leading your own class or assisting another teacher in their daily lessons. Your placement is completely dependent upon your level of comfort within the classroom. Your application should also state the category of children you prefer teaching and the intended subject (e.g. English, Maths, Arts etc).

The flexibility of the organisation allows individuals who wish to volunteer do so with an outcome of good volunteer experience. With an affordable program fee and a minimum program length of two weeks clearly rings a voluntary bell to interested volunteer(s). Notwithstanding that, our clear and concise answers to all questions by our team, direction of application form, pre-departure detailed information pack, readily available letter of introduction for your visa, stating clearly what is included & what is not included in your program fee, detailed information about host community placed etc definitely tells you there is more in stock for you and your volunteer experience would be very wonderful.
