Description:

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are appointed by Dependency Court judges to act as advocates for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and placed in protective custody (the foster care system). CASAs visit with the child to whom they are appointed regularly, getting to know the child. CASAs can be described as "independent gatherers of information." They interview all parties involved in the child's life, including biological parents, foster parents, teachers, therapists, and others. The CASA volunteer then submits a written report to the judge and appears in court advocating in the child's best interests.
