Description:

Provide an invaluable service to local community members in their time of emergency! The American Red Cross is responsible for verifying and relaying all emergency messages between the military and their families. The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana is looking for responsible and committed volunteers to work as Armed Forces Emergency Services Caseworkers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cover telephone calls and responsibilities associated with the American Red Cross's Armed Forces Emergency Services
• Fill out appropriate paperwork and make any necessary follow-up telephone calls to verify or relay details of emergency information

Location: Volunteers have the option of working in the Emergency Services office of the American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana or working from home

Dates Needed: Immediately. Schedule is flexible - volunteers choose a day of the week to work that best fits their schedule.

Length of Commitment: Prefer a year; at least 6 months.

What is meaningful about this position?

As an armed forces emergency services caseworker, you are the vital link between local military members and their families in times of emergency. You will gain experience in casework, as well as a familiarity with the American Red Cross and the services it provides to the community.

Skills:

• Strong oral and telephone communications skills
• Ability to respect and uphold confidentiality of all calls made and received
• Comfortable filling out paperwork
• Previous military experience or background is a plus, but not required
• No previous casework experience required, but training is provided.

Training:

• Initial 2-hour orientation to the position
• In-office support
• Armed Forces Emergency Services Basic Casework course is offered
