Terre des Hommes

Terre des homes (Tdh) Foundation is the largest non-governmental organization (NGO) for children’s aid in Switzerland, with three areas of expertise: health, social care, and the rights of the child. Tdh runs development projects in 28 countries and emergency relief programs in 3 others. In Peru, Tdh´s work focuses on the rights of the child, providing legal support to minors in conflict with the law, organizing training for those involved in the judiciary system (judges, lawyers, police officers, youth, social workers, etc.), and working among political and judicial authorities by advocating for the respect and use of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child and the restorative justice policy.

PROJECT: Executing the Juvenile Restorative Justice Model in Peru
OBJETIVE OF THE PROJECT: Contribute to the implementation of the juvenile restorative justice model with adolescents in conflict with the law, as opposed to a retributive and punitive justice model.
VOLUNTEER´S ROLE:
• Accompany the initial intervention team to attend children who are in conflict with the law in order to secure their rights are being respected
• Participate in the evaluation of a child in conflict with the law and his/her family to determine whether they are suitable for participating in the restorative justice programme with Terre des Hommes
• Meet regularly with the children and families that participate in the programme, assist them in their different needs and evaluate their progress.

ESTIMATED TIME: 3 to 4 months
REQUIRED SKILLS: Social Work, Psychology, Social Anthropology, Social Policy; Advanced level of Spanish
