Description
The KGERC home caters for young maasai girls who have been rescued from early marriages and others who escaped to avoid going through the traditional circumcision which is commonly known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The two practices are commonly practiced by many communities in Africa but with the enlightenment of communities it has significantly reduced, but it’s still a very big problem among the maasai community.
The center also caters for orphans and girls from poor families from the area offering educational and accommodation support.
The center was started in the year 2000 with a total of 14 girls. The number has since significantly risen and currently caters for 160 girls. The institution has children ranging from the Nursery school level up to from three level with the first girl completing high school next year.
Girls in lower level i.e. nursery school to primary school are educated within the institution but those in high school attend the public school within kajiado district but usually accommodated at the center during holidays because they cannot go back home.

KGERC is located within Kajiado town in the Rift valley Province, Kenya.
