Description:
Opportunity Description:
DAT Members conduct initial disaster relief fieldwork which includes providing emergency food, clothing, shelter, and financial assistance to affected clients. Responsibilities include:
• Conducting damage assessments of affected dwellings and determining habitability
• Collecting client information and ensuring completion of appropriate processes and data entry
• Assisting in maintaining readiness of disaster response vehicles, including the vans, emergency response vehicles (ERV), and related equipment
• Supporting the Mass Care function, including assisting with mass feeding operations
Time Commitment/Shifts:
Two shifts on-call from home per month either during the daytime (7am-7pm) or after hours (7pm-7am)
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) as well as listening skills
• Ability to climb stairs, work in smoky and damp buildings, and walk for extended periods of time
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment and handle and prioritize multiple tasks
• Ability to assess client needs and provide services with sensitivity, equity and consistency
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment
• Ability to lift 20 lbs repeatedly
• Bilingual skills a plus
