Description:

The Street Girls Aid requires social workers as counsellors at their refuge house in Accra. As a volunteer social worker in this capacity, you will be required to offer advice to young girls aged 12 to 17, who as a result of street life have been impregnated, raped or are prostituting themselves for money.

You will also be required to help these street girls to explore feelings about their lives, reflect on what is happening to them and consider ways to confidently face the future. Keeping individual confidentiality in mind, counsellors will be required to listen attentively to street girls and offer them the time, empathy and respect they need to express their feelings.

Aside these, your duties will also include:

- establishing a relationship of trust and respect with street girls at the refuge house;
- encouraging street girls to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others;
- helping street girls towards a deeper understanding of their concerns;
- assisting street girls to make informed decisions and choices about their future;
- etc.
