To provide a safe and stimulating environment where street children under 6 years can learn and develop while their young mothers work, Street Girls Aid has established numerous Day Care Centres/Crèches at strategic locations in Accra. The priority at these centers is to ensure that street children under 6 years of age are adequately prepared to enter primary school when they attain the set ages. Keeping in mind that work schedules for young street mothers can be unpredictable, the various Day Care Centres/Crèches being run by Street Girls Aid operate from 06:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. In every centre, there are four distinct classes held for 1-3, 3-4, 4-5, and 5-6 year olds.

As a volunteer caregiver at this day care centre/crèche, you will be required to:

- Offer care and safety to children under 6 years;
- Teach these children alphabets, numerals, songs, rhymes, poems, etc.
- Inculcate social etiquettes such as eating habits, greetings, etc;
- Monitor growth and report illness in children to the resident nurse on site;
- etc.

Skills needed for placement
First and foremost, volunteers must show a strong desire to work with preschoolers. They should realize that in developing countries such as Ghana, there are a lot of lapses in work. Volunteers will therefore need to be tolerant and flexible in order to meet their goals. Taking initiatives and follow-ups will help them overcome hurdles and face challenges more confidently.
