Description:

A Communication Officer with excellent communication skills and computer literacy is needed to manage GCI’s communications for one year.

The Communication Officer is responsible for:
- handling all communication by email, letter and phone between GCI and partners, journalists, funders, interns and members of the public.
- managing the weekly one hour radio programme: selecting and researching a topic, presenting the information on air or allocating interns to present the programme, securing guest speakers, answering questions from the radio host and members of the public.
- editing a bi-monthly prisoners’ rights newsletter and a quarterly GCI newsletter.
- updating the website
- writing press releases
- assisting with other projects as required by the Programme Director.


Conditions:
- The position will begin on June 1, 2009 and end on May 31, 2010.
- Working hours are 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday for the radio programme.
- You will be entitled to time off by arrangement with the Programme Director.
- There is no financial compensation for volunteers.
- Accommodation in the intern house is available for the reduced price of 80,000CFA per month. Electricity, water and gas are included.
