Youth Challenge Australia (YCA) is looking for experienced leaders, community educators and managers to fill community development field positions in Costa Rica, Guyana, Vanuatu, Mexico, Guatemala and India.
Since 1991, Youth Challenge Australia (YCA) has been promoting community development, international co-operation and understanding, through dynamic living and working exchanges between the people of different cultures and nationalities. More than 2000 youth aged 18 to 30 from 15+ countries have made substantial personal contributions through work, research, education, infrastructure, health and environmental activities on YCA projects. They are among the most exciting, passionate, driven and hard-working young people you will ever have the privilege of working with.
As a Group Leader with Youth Challenge Australia, you will have the opportunity to work closely with a dynamic team of Australian and international staff and youth volunteers. You will be trained in and assist with the coordination and facilitation of locally-based community development initiatives.
Group Leader contracts begin all throughout 2009 - 2010 and are for the duration of 3 – 6 months. As part of the role of a Group Leader with YCA, you will have your living expenses covered whilst in your project community.
You will be responsible for:
• The cost of flights to and from your project country.
• The cost of any necessary accreditation (Wilderness First Aid etc.) prior to your project commencement.
• The cost of any language training (as necessary) prior to your project commencement.
• The cost of medical vaccinations, visits and medications prior to your project commencement.

Skills and qualifications:
• Experience working with youth.
• Leadership experience in a wilderness/outdoor setting
• Previous experience in a cross-cultural environment.
• Experience in group work / team building.
• Experience living, working or travelling in developing countries (desirable).
• Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification (desirable).
• Minimum 2 years experience in a related field (desirable).
• Fluency in Spanish for postings in Central America (desirable).
Based on the limitations of the applicants’ nationality, residence or passport, applicants must have ability/ approval to spend the duration of the project, within the specific country.
