Global Brigades is secular US 501c3 nonprofit organization that empowers university students and professionals to travel abroad and provide medical relief, microenterprise development and perform legal empowerment projects in impoverished communities. We are currently in need of an experienced JD who can advise our Board of Directors on various nonprofit and patent laws by leading a team of volunteer law students to help with research.
In addition they would be asked to be the chairman of the advisory board for our newest program: Global Law Brigades (GLB). GLB is a network of pre-law students and legal professionals who travel internationally to work toward socially conscious solutions that support empowerment of youth and civil society in disadvantaged communities. GLB programs are designed to provide education about domestic and international legal issues in developing regions including international humanitarian law; business licensing and organic certification procedures; and environmental and human rights concerns. The educational component is combined with opportunities to work together to empower local communities that are directly affected by these global issues and concerns.
The position will likely turn into a paying full-time job depending on growth and success of programs.
Seeking a volunteer with:
• Strong overall nonprofit legal background
• Knowledge of tax and filing legislation around unrelated business income for nonprofits
• Experience in international tax law
• Patent and copyright experience
• Basic awareness and passion for human rights issues in developing countries
