Description:
KRM has a new tutoring program begun in the fall of 2008 aimed at providing academic support for struggling elementary, middle and high school students. Volunteers are required to meet with their student(s) at least once a week for at least an hour in the students’ apartments. They must agree to meet with their students for at least one school semester as well. Volunteers are responsible for providing homework help primarily, but the tutoring is definitely not limited to that. Based on what his/her student’s need is, a volunteer can bring his/her own outside materials and develop a mini lesson plan. We also encourage volunteers to work w/ the parents to teach them how to effectively tutor their own children with homework to promote self-sufficiency.
How to Apply:
Volunteers must attend an orientation and pass a background check before beginning. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@kyrm.org or (502) 479-9180, ext. 53 to ask for an application and schedule an orientation. You can also visit our website at www.kyrm.org to learn more
