Description:

Para el Mundo (PaM) Canada is a small charitable organization working in community medicine, education and social services programs. We are looking for Spanish-speaking volunteers join our team in Máncora, Peru.

PaM is seeking volunteers who want to work in community education programs. We are looking for volunteers to teach English, or topics related to social services, sexual health education, or community medicine. Past volunteers have included professional teachers, university students, public health workers, nursing professors, women's self-defense and martial arts instructors, drama and music teachers, sports instructors, sexual health educators and social service workers. PaM volunteers teach in both formal settings (like public school classrooms) and informal, such as PaM's community centre or giving public workshops.

Volunteers can choose their own arrival and departure dates, but we require a minimum stay of 4 weeks. PaM Canada has no religious or political affiliation and we welcome volunteers from diverse backgrounds.

Máncora, Peru is a small community of approximately 8,000, which struggles with unemployment, lack of clean water, poor living conditions and high rates of violence against women. Until the El Niño years of the 1980s and 1990s, Máncora had a booming fishing industry. Increasingly, the town's economic survival now depends on the emerging tourism industry. Many families are striving to create small businesses which could cater to the steady stream of tourists. Volunteers can enjoy the beautiful beach and year-round surfing which attracts many foreigners while getting involved in local community development projects.

Volunteers must be comfortable communicating in Spanish. Travel or volunteer experience in developing countries and/or Latin America is a plus. Volunteers are expected to cover the costs of their travel.

Program fees are all-inclusive: all in-house meals, high speed internet, house phone, private or double bedroom, and all program-related in-country transportation, airport/bus pick-up and drop-off, and local on-site staff support. Fees are approximately $375-$500USD/week.
