Description:

The Weppner Center for Civic Engagement and Service (CCES) is a department within the Student Affairs Division at FAU. Our mission is to develop partnerships with the community to provide service opportunities to students, faculty and staff, promoting the link between curriculum and service, fostering civic awareness.

The AmeriCorp*VISTA for service-learning would be responsible for strengthening the middle university service-learning program as well as establishing a connection with local non-profit agencies. Our goal is to meet the needs of college students by providing them with opportunities that will allow them to gain experiences in their area(s) of interest. We feel that offering a wider array of opportunities would serve the best interest of our students.

By expanding our opportunities for students we are continuing to fulfill the mission of our office by providing students with experiential service-learning that will allow them to gain practical experience, civic responsibility, and encourage community engagement.

The FASS AmeriCorps*VISTA Initiative is a service program that aims to empower students through volunteerism and service-learning to create positive change in our communities. VISTA members earn benefits, including a living allowance, health insurance, student loan forbearance, and a $4,725 education award to apply toward tuition, student loans, or future graduate studies. Applicants from out of state are eligible for a relocation allowance.
