Description:
United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants is seeking volunteer interpreters and facilitators for their Family Support Services program.
For nearly 100 years the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants has acted to address the needs and rights of persons in forced or voluntary migration worldwide by advancing fair and humane public policy, facilitating and providing direct professional services, and promoting the full participation of migrants in community life. The Family Support Services program helps families stay strong, united and happy while they are adapting to the many changes they are experiencing here in America. The program includes activities and courses to help families celebrate and strengthen their traditional ways of maintaining family harmony.
Desired language groups include Karen, Nepali, Arabic, French, Swahili and Spanish. Interpreters must speak and write English, as well as one of these languages.
The program coordinator will provide the training for volunteer interpreters to become RHMP-trained interpreters, and provide 8 hours of Relationship Enhancement training. Courses focus on communication, financial literacy, parenting and constructive problem solving .
How to Apply:
If interested, potential volunteers may reach USCRI Albany by telephoning 517-459-1790, or email asuscri@gmail.com. This position is open to student interns as well as community volunteers who are willing to dedicate themselves to a long-term, fast-paced and ultimately fulfilling work experience.
