AHAC Volunteer Executive Director
Part-Time

Wage and Hours: Volunteer, 15-20 hours per week

Purpose

The mission of the Alternative Health Care Access Campaign (AHAC) is to increase the accessibility of quality alternative healthcare for homeless and low-income adults and adolescents. AHAC is a volunteer-based organization and currently provides free alternative health care (massage, naturopathic medicine, acupuncture) at 6 sites in Seattle, WA.

The purpose of this position is to promote AHAC’s mission and vision in the community. The Executive Director (ED) executes policies set by the Steering Committee and has overall responsibility for the programmatic, financial, and management operations of the organization.

The ED represents AHAC to the broader community. She/He networks with other non-profits, government agencies, and professional organizations that serve low income populations; and also connects with public health organizations, government agencies, and professional organizations in complementary and alternative medicine.

Steering Committee governance and support

The ED will maintain appropriate and timely communication with the Steering Committee, submitting monthly reports to the Steering Committee and attending monthly meetings to discuss concerns and recommendations about the organization. The ED will receive direction from the Steering Committee on any major changes to workplans, budget or policy and on all major communications with sites and outside organizations.

Program Operations

* Attend annual strategic planning events with the Steering Committee that support the mission and goals of AHAC.
* Maintain strategic plans and associated workplans, policies and proposals.
* Ensure that patients are receiving quality health care services from AHAC.
* Ensure that practitioners have all necessary supplies.
* Provide volunteer support.
* Actively recruit practitioners and site volunteers.
* Build awareness of AHAC in the homeless and healthcare communities through marketing and outreach.
* Maintain a working knowledge of alternative healthcare and homeless healthcare issues.
* Be in touch with local homeless and alternative healthcare community needs, trends, and policies.

Finance

* Oversee daily financial operations
* Work with the treasurer to prepare and submit a proposed annual budget with detailed estimates of revenue and expenditures.
* Ensure revenue streams.
* Oversee the Fundraising Committee.

Management

* Oversee work study students and foster a positive work environment.
* Oversee AHAC’s Fundraising, Outreach and Supply committees and their workplans.
* Support relationships with the sites.
* Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps and motivates volunteers.

Position Requirements and Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills

* Leadership experience in management, administration, and fundraising
* Knowledge of and experience with non-profit organizations
* Knowledge of grant writing and budgets
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Basic computer skills including email, Word and Excel
* Knowledge of, or the desire to learn about, homeless health care issues and alternative medicine
* Ability to organize and work independently
* An accessible, open and energetic leader who promotes a decisive and focused team environment.
