Description:

This is a paid full-time, one-year commitment volunteer position through Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC). Benefits include: $565 monthly stipend, shared housing provided with supportive network of volunteers, medical and dental benefits, monthly transportation stipend, training provided, three LVC retreats a year, local support committee in place, great neighborhood. Provides experience in non-profit fundraising and event planning, computer skill building, networking, and social justice and community building opportunities.

Responsibilities:
-Coordinating the Individual Giving Program.
-Thanking donors through various formats.
-Designing and bulk mailing appeal letters for in-kind, monetary and other requests.
-Managing, tracking and reconciling donations, including in-kind, the Giving Circle and auction donations.
-Reporting of donations and other database information as needed.
-Creating and sending a monthly eNewsletter and other notifications to e-mail list.
-Managing and updating database records and information, including data entry.
-Coordinating the procurement of auction items and an auction procurement committee.
-Assisting with annual auction planning and other fundraising events.
-Taking pictures of programs and events as needed.
-Attending and tabling at community events.
-Assisting with the coordination small-venue events such as donor appreciation and cultural events.
-Assisting with monthly Café con El Centro community breakfast and tour event.
-Coordinating some marketing for fundraising/cultivation events.
-Researching and writing newsletter articles as needed.
-Promoting greater staff involvement in fundraising through staff campaigns and gathering contacts.
-Meeting weekly with the Development Team to coordinate fundraising strategies.
-Researching donor prospects.
-Overseeing a part-time work study student and volunteers as needed.
-Participate in organization activities like weekly charla/discussion sessions.
-Other tasks as assigned.
-Tasks vary widely, providing a nice pace of new and ongoing projects.
-This position provides a great mix of independent and team projects that work with our staff, volunteer and donor community to increase the sustainability of El Centro de la Raza.

Required Qualifications:
Skills needed include good writing abilities and an ability to communicate clearly. Personal characteristics needed include good organizational and coordination skills, an ability to work well with people, a desire to learn about fundraising/development work, an ability to organize volunteers, and an ability to work independently as well as in groups. An interest and commitment to providing service to communities of color, ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) and a completed Bachelor of Arts degree by the time position starts. This position is great for someone interested in learning about non-profit development and fundraising, events, volunteer coordination, community action agencies/advocacy, social justice work and supportive services for low-income communities.

Desired Skills:
Excellent organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively both with program staff and potential donors, an ability to work in a team as well as independently, and attention to detail. Some computer proficiency or a willingness to learn new computer programs preferred – positions utilize Salesforce, MS Word, Excel, Mail Merge, Outlook, Publisher and Access. Spanish language skills are a plus.
