Description:
GlobalVote (www.theglobalvote.org), a project of the 501(c)(3) organization Globalhood, Inc. is an innovative, Internet-based voting platform that engages people worldwide to discuss and vote on the world’s most pressing issues. GlobalVote aims to positively influence the international decision making process by disseminating online polling results to International Organizations, universities, the media, non-governmental organizations and national governments.
GlobalVote is seeking two part time volunteers to coordinate fundraising, perform grant searching, and apply to grants.
The primary responsibilities of the volunteers will include:
1. Finding grants for which GlobalVote is eligible, and writing and submit the necessary documents to these grant makers.
2. Following up on pending grant applications.
3. Assisting the Director and Project Manager with other tasks related to GlobalVote's mission, including drafting resolutions and providing input for other GlobalVote projects.
4. Attend NGO events in NYC to network for GlobalVote and develop its position in the NGO community.
Position Requirements:
1. Minimum time commitment: 3 months (desired start date first week of September), 16 hours a week in the office located in downtown Manhattan plus 8 hours (one day) via Internet.
2. Prior experience performing grant writing and fundraising strongly preferred but not strictly necessary.
3. Ability to effectively direct own activities and with minimal feedback and oversight.
A successful candidate will also have some knowledge of the fields of international relations and/or international politics or at least be very interested in these fields and a commitment to "making the world a better place."
Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience writing grant requests or some pre-existing connections in the arena of grant-writing, as well as to those who have a second language proficiency in one of the official United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish. However, the absence of these requisites should not discourage potential applicants.
The position has a September start date and a winter (December or January) end date, but because this is a volunteer opportunity, we would welcome a further commitment beyond this period.
