Description:

GlobalVote (www.theglobalvote.org), a project of the 501(c)(3) organization Globalhood, Inc. is an innovative, Internet-based voting platform that engages people worldwide to discuss and vote on the world’s most pressing issues. GlobalVote aims to positively influence the international decision making process by disseminating online polling results to International Organizations, universities, the media, non-governmental organizations and national governments.

GlobalVote is seeking one part time volunteer to perform media outreach, partnership / relationship building in the nonprofit community, and to manage communication with our member base.

Specific Responsibilities will include:
- Maintain the website as needed through the Content Management System (CMS) and function as help desk to answer general questions from the public and our members.
- Develop communication campaign materials (videos, etc.)
- Research possible contributions to magazines, editorials, other publications
- Blog postings: write and post blogs on the Globalhood website and related websites in order to spread the word about the project
- Assist in designing and disseminating promotional materials for GV, primarily a pamphlet highlighting our work
- Prepare a standard presentation for GlobalVote explaining the concept behind the project
- Actively search for new members, send at least 40 emails weekly
- Participate in online social marketing, forums on social networking sites, etc.
- Send a summary of comments / suggestions for improvement about the website to the project managers and report weekly to the coordinator all progress made during the week on activities, with a plan for the next week (very informal, email will do, is mandatory to do on a weekly basis!)
- Attend NGO events in NY for learning and networking purposes during internship as appropriate (such as DEMOS, Carnegie Council, etc…)
- Assist in other areas if temporary assistance is required

Requirements:
- Spend 24 hours a week on the GV project and a minimum 2 days in the GlobalVote office, the other 8 hours flexible working from home.
- Report to the office by 9:00 am and work for 8 hours if in the office.
- Sign in to Skype or Gmail so that GlobalVote members can stay in contact through the internet with you throughout the day.
- Reports weekly progress and plans for the next week (very informal, email will do) to coordinator

A successful candidate will have some knowledge of the fields of international relations and/or international politics and a commitment to "making the world a better place."

Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience in public relations and/or media outreach, as well as to those who have a second language proficiency in one of the official United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish. However, the absence of these requisites should not discourage potential applicants.

The position has a September start date and a winter (December or January) end date, but because this is a volunteer opportunity, we would welcome a further commitment beyond this period.
