Description:
GlobalVote (www.theglobalvote.org), a project of the 501(c)(3) organization Globalhood, Inc. is an Internet-based voting platform that engages people worldwide to discuss and vote on the world’s most pressing issues. GlobalVote aims to positively influence the international decision making process by disseminating online polling results to International Organizations, universities, the media, non-governmental organizations and national governments.
GlobalVote (www.theglobalvote.org), a non-profit based in the US and the Netherlands, is seeking one part time volunteer to draft resolutions for our website and to help with the creation and development of other content.
Summary Specific Tasks
- Drafting GlobalVote resolutions for voting on our website every 2 weeks
- Sending out mass emails after each new resolution has been posted
- Perform research on global decision making issues (internet voting, world government, global citizen etc.)
- Research and write essays on global decision making. Publish articles online and in university newsletters
Summary General Tasks
- Actively search for new members, send at least 40 emails to potential members daily
- Participate in online social marketing, forums on social networking sites, etc.
- Every end of the week send a summary of comments / suggestions for improvement about the website to the managers and report weekly to the coordinator all progress made during the week on activities and your plan for the next week (very informal, email will do)
- Attend NGO events in NY for learning and networking purposes during internship as appropriate (such as DEMOS, Carnegie Council, etc…)
- Assist in other areas if temporary assistance is required
Requirements:
Each day you will be expected to do the following:
- You are expected to spend 24 hours a week on the GV project and a minimum 2 days in the GlobalVote office, the other 8 hours flexible working from home.
- You are expected to report to the office by 9:00 am and work for 8 hours if in the office.
- Sign in to Skype or Gmail so that GlobalVote members can stay in contact through the internet with you throughout the day.
- Reports weekly to the coordinator progress made of the week and plan for the next week
A successful candidate will also have some knowledge of the fields of international relations and/or international politics or at least be very interested in these fields and a commitment to "making the world a better place."
Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience in media outreach, as well as to those who have a second language proficiency in one of the official United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish. However, the absence of these requisites should not discourage potential applicants.
The position has a September start date and a winter (December or January) end date, but because this is a volunteer opportunity, we would welcome a further commitment beyond this period.
