The Young Leaders Steering Committee provides essential guidance to the Planned Parenthood Young Leaders. They, in concert with Planned Parenthood staff, are the key players in producing, organizing, and ensuring the success of the Planned Parenthood Young Leaders.

Requirements of joining the Steering Committee:
• Attend a Planned Parenthood of Georgia volunteer orientation
• Commit to a one year term
• Attend Steering Committee Meetings and Young Leaders events
• Annual Steering Committee pledge of at least $1

Open Volunteer Position:
2009-10 Steering Committee Political Awareness Team Member(s)

PURPOSE: Works with Planned Parenthood of Georgia (PPG) staff and the Political Awareness Team Leader to plan the Women in the Halls kick-off event in early January, and increase attendance of 21-40 years olds at this event. Team Members will also recruit young people to attend the Women in the Halls lobby day in the week following the kick-off event.

Please note that Women in the Halls is a special project of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of Georgia, a 501c4 sister organization of PPG.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Young Leaders staff liaison and PPYL Group.

TIME COMMITMENT: It is anticipated that this volunteer position will require approximately 6 hours per month in the three months preceding the Women in the Halls kick-off in January 2010. Term is one year, beginning July 1, 2009 and ending June 30, 2010.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attend Political Awareness Team and PPYL Steering Committee meetings, and the Women in the Halls kick-off event and lobby day
- Take responsibility for aspects of the event and lobby day, such as menu, location, invitations, etc.
- Procure and negotiate services under the direction of the Team Leader
- Obtain approval for all services from the Team Leader
- Help with set up and clean up for event in whatever capacity is needed
- Provide volunteer assistance at the annual Planned Parenthood Action Fund of Georgia and Vote Choice fundraising event (fall 2009).
- Share personal invitation list for events
- Recruits new volunteers to the Young Leaders
- Enjoy and assist with other PPYL events, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: Must support PPG’s mission and goals. Interest in public policy issues related to reproductive health and justice, along with prior lobbying experience is helpful, but not required. Should be able to work in a group and be realistic about the time commitment involved. Should be reliable and flexible. A sense of humor, while not required, is a great asset.
