Description:

DSHR is a nationwide workforce of volunteers and employees that enables the American Red Cross to provide prompt and efficient disaster relief services to the American people. The DSHR team deploys members from the Greater New York Chapter to relief operations around the country, as needed, in response to hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc. DSHR is also used to track the experience and abilities of its workers while providing a measuring tool for Chapters across the nation to assess their response capabilities and resources.

The General Support Specialist assists with the intake and career guidance of new volunteers within the DSHR System. Responsibilities include:
• Assisting with the enrollment of new members into DSHR, including data entry of applications and completion of Welcome Packets and DSHR IDs
• Assisting in the deployment process by doing member call downs, completing the necessary paperwork and staff card processes, orienting members to their assignments and debriefing with them following completion of their assignments
• Maintaining current and accurate files for DSHR members – updating training records, completing an annual update of member profiles and changing G/A/P (Group/Activity/Position) information
• Meeting with volunteers and employees to discuss their DSHR experience – answering questions, clarifying career paths and training requirements, and preparing them for deployment

Time Commitment/Shifts:
A minimum of two 4-8 hour shifts per week

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Excellent customer service skills and a friendly and professional demeanor
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
• Flexibility – able to adapt to multiple tasks and a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Data entry experience a plus

Training/Support:
• Volunteer Orientation & Fulfilling Our Mission (4 hours)
• Additional training to be provided by department
