Description:

Want to serve the children of Louisiana? Join the AmeriCorps*VISTA team with Louisiana CASA!

The mission of CASA is to provide voice and advocacy for abused and neglected children by serving as the eyes and ears of a Judge. CASA recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer advocates who work for the best interest of children in Louisiana's foster care system. Currently, CASA services are available in 51 of the 64 parishes across Louisiana. CASA in Louisiana served over 3,400 abused and neglected children in 2006 through recruiting, training, and supporting over 1,300 volunteers. CASA volunteers are everyday, Louisiana citizens who have taken up the challenge and have become heroes for our most at-risk victims. The number of children needing a CASA volunteer continues to grow, however, and all local programs have reported a need for more volunteers to meet the increased demands placed on their individual programs.

The Community Development VISTA will assist the Community Development Coordinator with locating funding opportunities for CASA, in addition to volunteer recruitment efforts at the state level.

This is a partnership with AmeriCorps*VISTA, a national service program which requires a one year commitment. Applicants may not attend school or hold outside employment during their year of service.
