Description:
Amnesty International of the Philadelphia Area aims to promote Amnesty International in the Philadelphia area and to expand outreach to Latino communities in Philadelphia and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Amnesty International (AI) seeks a Latino Outreach Coordinator (LOC) to work with a team of other volunteers and interns to maintain and expand a Latino Outreach Committee of approximately 10 volunteers, a listserv for all Spanish-speaking volunteers in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and relationships with various Latino organizations. The LOC is also encouraged to: plan and pursue other projects, events, and activities to increase awareness of AI in local Latino communities; recruit other Spanish-speaking persons to join AI nationally and become involved locally; and translate any AI materials from English to Spanish.
AI asks that the LOC commit to a minimum of 1 year, though longer commitments are preferred. The time commitment is fluctuating with an average of 5-10 hours per week; hours are highly flexible and in the field. Please note, this work will NOT be affiliated with an AIUSA office but rather will be independent work with AI volunteers in the Philadelphia area. AI asks that the LOC maintain contact with other local volunteers and/or regional staff at least once a month, though more frequent communication is often desirable. Finally, AI strongly encourages involvement in an AI local group. The LOC position is unpaid, but will have a valuable impact on both Amnesty International and the broader Philadelphia Latino community.
The ideal candidate will be:
• committed to and interested in human rights
• familiar with Amnesty International and its human rights concerns
• knowledgeable of current affairs
• able to work well as part of a team and independently
• strong in written and verbal communication skills
• creative in planning projects, events, and activities
• proficient in both Spanish and English
• connected to the local Latino community
How to Apply:
To apply, please e-mail resume and cover letter to Abbe Horswill (abbe.horswill@gmail.com); please keep in mind:
1. In your cover letter, please indicate the number of days per week you will be available for volunteer work, including start and departure dates
