Location: 520 West 49th Street
New York, NY 10019
The Volunteer (or Volunteer Partner) works with the Senior Director, Marketing & Public Relations, to promote ARC/GNY’s programs, services and initiatives by participating in the development and execution of communication outreach programs and the management of ARC/GNY’s media relations function. Responsibilities include:
• Help create strategic communications plans/initiatives
• Help develop and manage tactics for pro-active promotion/solicitation of all ARC/GNY activities and initiatives in the public arena.
• Participate in the conception, production, and distribution of press releases, media alerts, public service announcements and other communications to all media outlets.
• Help develop and/or strengthen media relationships and public relations contacts.
• Help secure pro-active stories such as op-ed, features and by-lines
• Volunteer Partner: provide backup support to any of the various functions within the group (e.g. website content, social networking programs, writing/editing, ad development, etc)
Time Commitment/Shifts:
2-3 days per week during regular business hours (or more as available), with possibilities for telecommuting
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Marketing and Strategic in-house or agency PR experience w/knowledge of Greater NY media market (Volunteer Partner)
• Strategic in-house or agency PR experience w/knowledge of Greater NY media market (Volunteer/Volunteer Partner)
• Proficient in internet applications and web-based communication
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to write quickly and accurately
• Interest in non-profit and/or previous experience in this sector
• Self-motivated, requires minimal supervision and has the ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Social media (web 2.0) experience preferred but not required
• Multi-lingual capabilities a plus
Training/Support:
• Volunteer orientation & fulfilling our mission (4 hours)
• Additional training to be provided by department
