Description:
Senior Companion pairs active, low-income seniors with homebound, disabled, or critically ill peers. Companions provide respite to caregivers and assist clients with grocery shopping, bill paying, and other daily tasks that promote independent living. The most important thing aspect is human interaction, which improves the quality of life for both individuals.
Senior Companions must be at least 60 years of age, in good health, within federal income guidelines, and willing to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Senior Companions should commit to the program for at least one year and will be paid a stipend of $2.65 for every hour served or spent in training. Additional benefits include a daily meal, transportation allowance, and paid vacations and holidays.
How to Apply:
To become a Senior Companion, contact Dennis Moy at dmoy@mifa.org or (901) 529-4535, or fill out an online application here: www.mifa.org/volunteerapplication.
