Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) is an international non-profit organization that was founded in 1965. AMIGOS trains and provides opportunities for young adults (age 16 to 25) to volunteer in Latin America for 5-8 weeks during the summer.

Projects include education for children; health and hygiene education; technology education; work at health clinics; women's empowerment; environmental projects and more. Volunteers live with a host family and work with the community to achieve sustainable community development projects.

To serve as an AMIGOS Volunteer in Latin America, you must:

- Be at least 16 years old by September 1st of the year of volunteer service
- Have completed two years of high school level Spanish, or the equivalent
- Adhere to the AMIGOS' Standards of Conduct and Community Behavior
- Fulfill fundraising and training requirements
- Receive required immunizations

The Participation Fee ($4,400 for summer 2009, 2010 fee will be announced shortly) includes:

- Round-trip international airfare from your gateway city
- Food, lodging, and transportation in Latin America
- All project related supplies
-Training materials and workshops
-Veteran supervisory Project Staff
-24-hour emergency On-Call Communications System during the program
-Supplemental short-term international medical insurance
