Title & Description: Development/Fundraising Intern

Girls for Gender Equity (GGE) is an intergenerational, grassroots organization committed to the physical, psychological, social and economic development of girls and women.
Through education, organizing and physical fitness, GGE encourages communities to remove barriers and create opportunities for girls and women to live self-determined lives.

GGE targets New York City public schools based in low-income communities of color as sites to mobilize and collectively work toward gender and race equity. Through the facilitation of our core programs --Youth Organizing Program, Urban Leaders Academy After School Program, and Health and Fitness Program -- GGE has established a dual approach to grassroots organizing and service provision that builds authentic leadership and strengthens resources within the communities we serve.

Girls for Gender Equity is seeking a Development/Fundraising Intern who firmly believes in feminist/womanist theory, works from a strengths perspective to develop low-income communities of color, and cultivates intergenerational collaboration within and outside of the agency. The Development/Fundraising Intern will manage multiple administrative development assignments under deadlines and actively research development opportunities.

Reports to:
The Development/Fundraising Intern works closely with and reports to the Executive Director and Assistant to Director.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The Development/Fundraising Intern will:
-Work with executive director and Board of Directors to plan and execute fundraising events
-Assist executive director by researching and following-up on proposals
-Assist executive director with identifying and soliciting individual donors, business donations, and corporate sponsors
-Independently solicit donations through direct mail and in person appeals
-Maintain organized data collection spreadsheets and shared files
-Alert executive director to new funding opportunities and creative fundraising strategies
-Support additional development/ fundraising projects

Qualifications:
-Excellent written and communication skills, administrative skills, general office skills
-General knowledge of funding sources and grant making procedures
-Ability to work as a part of a diverse team without regard to differences based on race, sexuality, ability, or age
-Ability to organize and manage workload
-Outstanding computer skills (particularly Microsoft Office programs) and proficiency in utilizing the internet
