Description:
The placement is a community Based Organization (CBO) started in 2003 and is based in the rural Kenya in Nyanza province whose activities aimed at working with the community that is facing many challenges.
1. The organization aim is to address the pain of ignorance in the community through provision of free quality education to many children who are from extremely poor families whose parents cannot afford to pay school fees.
2. Addresses the hunger issue of children through a provision of school feeding program to the students.
3. Work closely with women widowed as a result of HIV/Aids pandemic in the area and the resulting OVCs, providing free counseling and healthcare.
The placement is a worthwhile opportunity to volunteer due to its direct involvement with the local poor community and working towards addressing the challenges facing them. This is in spite of its limited resources that makes the placement not to be able to hire staff to carry out the various projects it is involved.
The placement require volunteer nurses and HIV/Aids counselors , teachers for both nursery school and childcare center as well as primary school teachers to teach in the placement institution in any subject.
Any other volunteer who may not have the above qualifications but willing to lend a hand in the placement is most welcome also. It can be assisting in preparing meals for the kids, playing with the kids, assist in their homework, mentoring etc.
The volunteer (s) is free to initiate any activity within the placement that will gear towards improving the quality of life of the community and also the effectiveness of the placement.
The volunteer will pay a registration fee of 100 Euros which will cater for:
1. Volunteer airport pick up by our staff
2. Accommodation and food in Nairobi before travel to the placement
3. Transport to the placement accompanied by our staff
4. Orientation
Additional 300 Euros /month to cater for food and accommodation in a host family.
Upon confirmation the volunteer will receive useful information package about Kenya that will assist in preparing your stay in the country.
