Description:
Its a Community based organization founded in 2008 with the assistance of a volunteer from Switzerland. It operates in Belgut constituency, Kericho district, southern rift valley, Kenya. It works with the local communities to promote, empower and develop the less privileged.
The CBO endeavors to develop the knowledge and skills of vulnerable young people by supporting them to realize their potentials through improved access to education opportunities, sports, recreation among others, hence effecting a positive change in the society.
Mission statement of the project;
To work with and support vulnerable young people and help in realization of their diverse potentials.
Objectives of the project:
1.Spear head an approach of working with families, institutions and organizations to encourage positive youth development through conventional education methods.
2.Offer young people an opportunity for personal development through recreation, educational and livelihood trainings.
3.To use sports, creative arts, group discussions etc, in addressing crosscutting issues e.g., HIV/AIDS, environmental health and sanitation, hygiene, Human rights, Child abuse, Conflict resolution, drug abuse.
4.Networking and collaboration for learning and sharing of information.
Current programs are:
1.Environmental health and sanitation:- Behavior change communication with regard to prevention and awareness of HIV/AIDS & STDS reduce cases of teenage pregnancies, improving sanitation and food/water hygiene in schools, homes, market and across the community.
2.Community development/Poverty alleviation:- Asset based community development (ABCD) approach on implementing our programs targeting the marginalized communities, disabled, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and other less privileged persons. Organize workshops and trainings on entrepreneurship, farming and other life skills for the youth and other groups within the community.
The project success story for the two years in has been in existence can be quantified as follows:
-34 children and youth supported to access formal education.
-Three Houses constructed in support of orphans and vulnerable children.
-Eight youths accessing livelihood opportunities.
-29 women trained on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial skills.
-Over 400 young people and parents reached with health and sanitation education.
-17 families trained on water and food hygiene.
-Sixfamilies’ received food aid/capital to start up an income generating activities.
-Two women/widows’ groups received support on income generating activities.
The CBO requires volunteers who ill assist in the following areas;
•trainings and workshops discussions carried out to address crosscutting issues e.g., HIV/AIDS, environmental health and sanitation, hygiene, Human rights, Child abuse, gender issues, Conflict resolution, drug abuse.
•Strengthen the management team /the group and help generate ideas to sustain the projects.
The volunteer will pay a registration fee of 100 Euros which will cater for:
1. Volunteer airport pick up by our staff
2. Accommodation and food in Nairobi before travel to the placement
3. Transport to the placement accompanied by our staff
4. Orientation
Additional 300 Euros/ month to cater for the volunteer food and accommodation in a host family.
Upon confirmation the volunteer will receive useful information package about Kenya that will assist in preparing your stay in the country.
